Raw Sushi And Pregnancy

raw sushi and pregnancy
Question about sushi during pregnancy?

Do California rolls count as sushi since there isn’t any raw fish in it? I’m really craving some of the “cooked” varieties of sushi like the one with the crab in the middle surrounded with the rice and the seaweed paper or the one with the cooked salmon stuff surrounded by rice and those little toasted seeds, but I was wondering if I had to just beat that down til the baby was born. What do you think? I don’t see why they would be bad, but I just wondered since my Dr. said don’t eat “sushi” not don’t eat the very delicious raw varieties of sushi.

You are correct, there is nothing in your California roll that is uncooked. There is no reason you should avoid cooked sushi rolls. I would be very sparing with the soy sauce though…the high sodium is not good for you right now.

Keep in mind that the word Sushi refers to sushi rice, which has vinegar in it. Sushi does not mean raw fish. Sashimi is raw…so I would recommend avoiding sashimi, but cooked sushi rolls can come in every different variety…just veggies and rice to cooked/broiled/fried rolls. For the most part, they are very healthy.

If you still have any concerns, speak to your Dr. and explain the type of sushi you are looking for..and your Dr. can make the decision for you.
